and now i know why i never liked john edwards...
...the guy cheated on his cancer-patient wife. in the last few months.

way to go, edwards. now we get to see the mccain ads with obama and edwards together, and that will damage obama.

and, man, elizabeth has cancer, again, and you decide to go fuck around on her? you're as slimy as i always suspected you were.

tonight, i hope you're forced to sleep on a grate under a bridge with those homeless vets you were always telling us about. asshole.

way to act like a republican, johnny boy.

What do marital affairs have to do with politics?

I think that having an affair is completely disgusting. Having an affair while your spouse is going through cancer also disgusting. But it is actually really common. Some people do not have effective coping strategies. I am not saying it is right but it happens all the time according to research on coping with spousal cancer/chronic illness/terminal illness.

What I am confused about is why this story makes the evening news and I don't have an update about the war that the U.S. is currently fighting?
Why is a personal family matter broadcast on the evening news?
What does it have to do with political affiliation?

I had a non-opinion of John Edwards prior to this story. I happened to be reading this post as I was watching the news and was disgusted with the quality of "journalism" that is presented on the nightly "news" nationally and in Milwaukee market.

crystal,

the fact that the guy ran for president after having done this and then constantly lied to the press when he was asked about the rumors about his infidelity shows that he was not trustworthy or honorable. it's one thing to fib or distort, but some of the clips i saw of him swearing up and down that he was innocent were really sad to see. made clinton's "i did not have sexual relations with that woman" statement look like nothing. and his wife has cancer. he's a total pig. that's revolting. i don't care if lots of people do it. doesn't make it okay. lots of people are fucked. (look at toby keith and nickelback's album sales totals for evidence of this).

i appreciate the idea that personal lives should be one thing, and political life another, but when your behavior in your personal life makes you tell bald-faced lies in your public life, there's no separating the two.

plus, the guy practically ran on his family-man qualities.

i'm with you on the non-coverage the war is (not) getting, though. it's shameful. it should be the top story every day in every single media outlet. people have war fatigue. to me, that means they should be forced to look at gruesome, bloody images on a constant basis. if the coverage was true and not censored, this war would've been over years ago. but that's another issue.

McCain won't use Edwards against Obama like that, because he has no room to talk.

He's long admitted that he was having an affair with Cindy while still married to his first wife who was suffering from complications of a terrible car accident.

i don't think that mccain's people are that concerned with making sensible, coherent arguments. but i think you may be right. he'd be hosed if he went there. i think that some surrogates might.
